The Maned Wolf

Today's Animal of the Day is the Maned Wolf. It is the tallest wild canid, standing at about 3 feet tall, and is found in the grasslands of South America. Its incredibly long legs help it to see over tall grass to spot small mammals and birds to hunt.  Unlike other canids, the Maned Wolf does not hunt in packs, and is typically shy around humans and others of its kind. The animal's urine also has a distinct smell that is similar to the scent of cannabis.

Despite looking like a fox and being named a wolf, the Maned Wolf is not identified with either group, and is considered a distinct and unique canid on its own.
